Allergies to Scents
Due to a very serious allergy to most perfumes, fragrances, or cigarette/cigar smoke, parents and children may not enter the daycare at any time wearing any kind of perfume, after shave, lotion, scents or smelling of cigarette/cigar smoke.
PLEASE make sure your child does not have perfume or scents on them when coming to daycare. Please do not smoke around your child before bring him/her into care. If I notice a scent/smoke upon arrival we will request the child be taken home to remove the scent/smoke. If I notice scent/smoke after you leave, you will be called to pick up your child.
Parents are requested to avoid using scented detergents, lotions, or soaps on the child or the child's clothing.
Johnson and Johnson baby products and non-scented baby products are allowed.
Tide and Whisk are also okay for laundry detergents. If you can use the "Free" scented laundry soap it would be best. Allergies: Environmental and Seasonal
If a child comes to day care with a runny nose, coughing, congestion, and the parent feels this is due to allergies I must have a Doctor's note stating what the child is allergic to. Children will not be allowed to attend the day care if they have a fever, persistent non clear runny nose, persistent coughing or diarrhea that coincides with allergies.
Common Cold Policy
Your child can still come to care with a common cold as long as:
your child can still join in all actives
your child can play outside
your child does not have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea
your child brings a box of tissues for his/her noise (labeled)
your child is eating well
your child had a good night sleep
If I or my children have a common cold:
I will still be open.
I will let you know which one of us is sick as soon as possible. It will then be up to you weither or not you bring your child.
If I feel that I have to close, (cold turns into something else) then I will let you know as soon as possible.
If I do have to close (unlikely), sorry it is your responsibility to find a replacement.
Croup
Your child needs to stay home for 7 days after treatment has started. A doctor's note is required for your child to return to daycare.
Diarrhea Policy
Diarrhea due to illness is highly contagious. If your child has diarrhea, for any reason, please keep him/her home.
Your child can return to daycare after 24 hours from the last diarrhea bowel movement.
If your child has diarrhea at daycare, you will be called to come pick up your child.
Doctor's Notes
I hold the right to ask for a Doctor's Note before your child can return to care.
I have the right to refuse a Doctor's Note if I feel that your child is not ready to join in all activates, or just isn't ready to return to care.
Sending your Child Home
I hold the right to send your child home upon arrival or during the day if at anytime I feel that your child cannot join in all activates, is uncomfortable, or any other reason I feel is justified.
Fever Policy
If your child has a fever, no matter the cause, your child MUST remain home for 24 hours AFTER the fever has broken. If your child gets a fever well at daycare, you will be contacted to pick your child up. If I find out that you have given your child medication to cover up a fever before sending your child to daycare, Little Seeds Home Daycare holds the right to terminate care immediately or once a replacement child can be found.
Flu
If your child has the flu, please keep your child home until he/she has been symptom free for 24 hours.
Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
If your child has Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, please keep them home.
Your child can return to daycare:
They have been fever free for 24 hours
All sores/blisters are dried up
your child can join in all activities
your child can play outside
your child is eating
Head Injury
If your child has a head injury (no matter where the injury was happened) your child much stay home:
48 hours with a concussion. I will overturn any doctors note stating that the child can come to care before the 48 hours is over.
24 hours with no concussion. Must have a doctors note stating there is no concussion before returning to daycare. I will over turn any doctors note stating that the child can come to care before the 24 hours is over.
I take head injuries very seriously.
Head Lice Policy
It is the responsibility of all parents to check their child's hair weekly for head lice and to provide adequate treatment if head lice is found. If your child has head lice you need to inform me right away. This way I can inform all other parents that head lice has been found in the Daycare. The sooner all parents are aware of the lice the sooner they can check their children and we can stop the outbreak before it gets too big.
An infected child can return to daycare 24 hours after the 2nd treatment has been done and that you have confirmed that all lice are dead and the nits (eggs) have been removed.
The treatments can be done within 7 to 10 days from each other, depending on the treatment used.
It takes 10 days for an egg to hatch, if you miss just one then you will have a whole new out break. This is why you need to keep your child home this long.
During a head lice outbreak my Daycare will remain open for all no-infected children. It is up to you whether or not to bring your non-infected child or not.
Payment will still be due for the days I am open.
All steps will be taken to remove any head lice from the Daycare/my home as quickly and safely as possible.
What are head lice?
Head lice are very small, less than 1/8 inch long, tan colored insects that live on the human head. They live and lay their eggs, called nits, close to the scalp. The nits are tiny and are gray, white or brown. The nits become firmly cemented to the hair shaft.
Who can get head lice?
Anyone can get head lice. They are not a sign of being dirty and do not reflect poorly upon parents. Head lice are a common problem any place where there are groups of children, such as child care settings and schools.
What are the symptoms of head lice?
Itching and scratching of the scalp and neck are usually the first sign that head lice are present. The areas most often affected are behind the ears and the back of the neck. If lice or nits are found on the head of one person in a household, the heads of all household members should be checked. Look for crawling lice in the hair near the scalp and nits glued to the hair shafts. They are usually found within 1/2 inch of the scalp.
When do the symptoms appear?
It may take two to three weeks before the intense itching is noticed.
How are head lice spread
Head lice are passed from person to person by direct contact, on shared personal items (combs, brushes, hats, scarves, sports headgear, jackets and other clothing) or by contact with infested bedding, furniture, or carpeting. Head lice do not fly or jump. They crawl and can fall off the head. Lice do not usually live longer than 48 hours off the head. They only lay their eggs while on the head. It is unlikely that the nits will hatch into insects after they have fallen off the head. Lice do not spread to pets and you cannot get them from pets.
What is the treatment for head lice
Lice control products come in the form of shampoos, creme rinses and lotions. Some products are available over the counter from a drug store and some are only available by prescription. If you are on medical assistance contact your physician for a prescription. Contact a physician before using any lice control product on an infant or a woman who is pregnant or breast feeding. It is recommended that the hair first be washed with a shampoo that does not contain a conditioner or creme rinse. Baby shampoo and Prell are two good examples. The head should be rinsed as usual. Some products are to be used on a dry head, others on a head that is damp. Only those people with actual lice or nits should be treated because use of these products will not prevent someone from getting head lice.
Follow the directions carefully. The directions are not the same for every product. The lice don't always die immediately. It might take up to 24 hours. If live lice are seen two days after treatment, retreat with a different brand. It is recommended that all nits be removed as part of the treatment. A special fine toothed comb is usually included with the product or can be purchased separately. However, many people feel that the most effective way to remove nits is with fingernails. There are also nit loosening products that you can use after the lice treatment shampoo. Be sure to clean your fingernails thoroughly with hot soapy water and scrape under them if you used them to remove nits. After the hair is dry, recheck the head for any nits left over and remove them. After treatment check the head ever day for several days.
How can the spread of head lice be controlled?
Combs, brushes, and similar items should be soaked for at least 10 minutes in hot (30 degrees) soapy water or a lice control product solution, then scrubbed with an old toothbrush that you can throw out. Recently worn clothing, including hats, scarves, jackets, pajamas, etc., should be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer for an least 20 minutes before being worn again. Items which cannot be washed should be dry-cleaned, or sealed in plastic bags for two weeks. Items such as sports headgear, headphones, stuffed animals and pillows should also be bagged and stored for 2 weeks. Clean floors and thoroughly vacuum carpets, furniture, mattresses and the seats of cars. The use of lice killing sprays is not recommended.
How can the spread of head lice be prevented?
Check children's heads frequently throughout the year. Especially if they are in childcare or school. Avoid sharing items for hair care, clothing, hats, sports headgear, towels, and bedding. Avoid sharing lockers. If jackets are hung on hooks close together tell your kids to stick their hats in the jacket sleeve, not on a shelf by the other kids' hats.
Injuries
No matter how closely we watch and how careful we are accidents do happen occasionally. Minor cuts and bruises suffered while at daycare will receive proper care - they will be washed with soap and warm water and properly bandaged.
Immunization Policy
Child MUST stay home for 24 hours after they get immunized. This is so a parent can see if there are any side effects and take the child to be seen if necessary.
All children need to have their immunizations up to date. A updated copy of your child's immunization record is required at time of signing the agreement as well as after each immunization.
Measles and Mumps
Measles and Mumps Your child must remain home for at least 7 days from when the rash first appears. The rash must be gone before your child can return to daycare.
You must have a note from your doctor stating your child is not longer contagious before returning to daycare.
Medical Emergencies
In case of serious accident or sudden illness requiring medical attention, the following procedures are followed:
Call 911
Parents or emergency contacts are called.
Child will be sent to local hospital.
Parents will be responsible for all costs involved in emergency treatment including emergency transportation and equipment if required.
I will authorize only medical care that is serious enough that it must be administered immediately and cannot wait until the parent/emergence contact arrives.
The parent/emergence contact must meet the child at the hospital as I have other children in my care and can not go to the hospital.
These health policies are critical to ensuring the health of all children in my care , I appreciate your help and support.
Medication Policy
Parents must notify the Daycare of any medications given to their child prior to arriving at daycare. This will enable me to monitor their child for any side effects.
I will administer prescription medication and/or non-prescription medication (such as Tylenol) when it is accompanied by a Doctor’s Note. Parents are responsible to cover all Dr,’s fees.
All medication MUST be is the original container with the child’s name clearly written on it, a medication Record Form MUST be fully filled out.
Medication will only be administered if in the following forms:
~ Pills, Liquids, Ear Drops, EpiPens (EpiPen form must be completely filled out) and Creams (you must provide disposable medical gloves).
Medication will NOT be administered in, but not limited to, the following forms:
~ Injection (excluding EpiPens), Eye Drops, Depositories. If your child requires the medication during daycare hours you can come at set times to administer it or give written permission for another person (18 years old or older) at set times to administer it.
Pink Eye and Conjunctivitis
Children are not allowed to attend daycare with eyes that are red and/or eyes that are weeping with clear/yellow or cloudy drainage.
They must be completely free of drainage both running and dried drainage around their eyes before they can return to daycare.
I do not accept Dr.'s notes allowing children to return to daycare after treating conjunctivitis if the redness and drainage are still present.
Rashes, Scabies or Ringworm
Please keep your child home for 48hrs after he/she has been treated.
Scarlet Fever
Please keep your child home for 48 hours after he/she has started antibiotics. Your child Must be able to fully join all indoor/outdoor activities.
Seizures
I am not trained to handle seizures. For the safety of your child and the safety of the other children in my care I cannot take/keep a child that is prone to having seizures.
If your child has never had a seizure at the time of enrollment but starts to get them afterwards, I will have to terminate care for your child's safety and for the safety of the other children in my care.
Teething and Ear Infections
About 90 percent of the time when children present with moderate illness symptoms the parents feel it is either teething or an ear infection. These are two"illnesses" that are not contagious which would allow the child to be in daycare despite symptoms that would otherwise exclude them from care.
Teething
It is a common misconception that children get fevers when they are teething. Children will not be allowed to attend the daycare if they have a fever, persistent non clear runny nose, coughing, or diarrhea that coincides with teething. Children will be allowed to attend daycare if they present swollen gums and drooling associated with teething.
Ear Infections
Children may attend the day care with an ear infection as long as he/she is able to participate in our normal activities and does not have any fluid draining out of the ear canal. Children will not be allowed to attend the daycare if they have a fever, persistent non clear runny nose, coughing or diarrhea that coincides with an ear infection.
Vomiting Policy
If your child vomits while at daycare, you will be called immediately to pick him/her up.
If your child is vomiting he/she must stay home.
Your child can return to daycare 24 hour after the last time he/she vomits as long as he/she does not have a fever or diarrhea.
Whooping Cough
If your child has Whooping Cough please keep him/her home for 5 days from when he/she starts antibiotics.
